Symptom: Part of the eye has been red and painful for several days. Not itchy. Slightly better now. Slight swelling is gone.

Whats the cause? Is it conjunctivitis?

Have you checked if anything is stuck in there?? try rinsing water over your eye. If it doesn't get any better, then i suggest you go to an eye specialist and see what the problem is before it gets worse.

Found this on the net:

"
Brief testimonies are presented to illustrate rose's therapeutic properties, including its healing effect on insect bites, eczema, dermatitis and eye irritation. It can also be mixed with water and taken internally to cleanse the system. Rosewater can be used in a wide range of applications, such as a facial wash and toner, moisturizer, wrinkle reducer, hand cream and eyewash, as well as in poultices or compresses, vaporizers, and for inhaling or gargling. The oil can be added to the bathwater, worn as rose oil perfume, released in rose oil candles and incorporated into an aromatherapy massage oil, which has been found particularly beneficial for women with hormonal problems. The scent of rose has also been found to have a narcotic, aphrodisiac and cephalic effect."

I think one should make sure water used should be sterile (if used as an eye wash).

"The benefit comes from its ability to stimulate the flow in the minute blood vessels under the skin. Scars, minor infections, sunburn, ageing skin and thread veins all benefit from this action. It is a natural mild antiseptic and can help relieve nappy rash. It rehabilitates capillaries helping reduce thread veins. It can be applied to insect bites and sunburn."

Benefits of Gulab Jaman:

"Putting on pounds of weight, rotting your teeth, blocking your arteries......"

Nimb leaves and bark/twig is also very good. In the olden days, they used the twig as a toothbrush (chewing the end). Most old Gurdwara's use to plant Nimb Tree.

If you buy an Indian brand like Dabur Gulab Jal(one i know) there is a eye dropper included in pack
else ask for it from store seprately.
Put one drop in each eye and probably you'll require some assistance for putting in second eye becoz eye burns a lot
& as soon as you put it in first eye you won't be in position to put in second eye urself for few mins.
